FATU HIVA MONARCH
Large 19cm, fly-catching bird. Lives on the tiny island of Fatu Hiva in the country of French Polynesia, a part of France in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean. Its home is in the dense native forests of Mount Touaouoho. Suffers because rats, brought onto the island in 2000, kill and eat nestlings and eggs. This has reduced the population from a stable 1000 to around 60.
