polynesian ground dove

Medium sized dove, 25cm. Females reddish purple and grey, males with a white chest. They live on the ground, 200 remain on tiny wooded islets in Tuamotus, in French Polynesia which is a part of France that is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They suffer because they have no way to stop rats, brought in by people, killing and eating their eggs and nestlings.
